The Supreme Court has expressed displeasure over the Allahabad High Court’s remark saying the healthcare system in rural Uttar Pradesh is ‘Ram Bharose’ or at mercy of gods.

The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday filed an affidavit before the Supreme Court defending itself against the Allahabad High Court’s ‘Ram Bharose’ remark on the healthcare system in rural UP.

Expressing displeasure over the remark, the Supreme Court said the high court’s order of getting 2 ICU ambulances for all villages is ‘impractical’. The Supreme Court also said that it will consider fixing a limit on the court orders to be given in public interest matters.

The Uttar Pradesh government stated in court that the state has 289 identified community health centres. 298 oxygen centres have been provided by the central government and another 20,000 such concentrators are being purchased, said the government.

“1,771 oxygen concentrators have been provided to 273 community health centres,” the government informed the Supreme Court.

The UP government has further said that the state has a total of 2,200 basic life support ambulances in addition to the 250 advanced life support ambulances.

“State is going to install oxygen concentrators with capacity of 44,082 litres per minute for 7,189 beds, out of which 18 generators are installed. Out of the 177 oxygen concentrators which have been sanctioned, 18 have been installed,” said the government.

In its defence, the UP government further said that 528 plants oxygen plants have been sanctioned and 133 are functional. The state has also placed a purchase order for 20 oxygen concentrators for every community health centre.

Hearing in the matter has now been postponed to August 10.
